Thankful Thursday-Morning Preparations
She just turned 1. I am just assuming that she doesn't want to sleep because I am such a fun mom that she doesn't want to miss a moment with me. I can't think of any other reason for our usual midnight play dates.
I have been reading the updates from Inspired to Action, about the upcoming Maximize Your Mornings challenge, and this morning, after getting up multiple times with my daughter, I decided to go downstairs at almost 5 am, and make a pot of coffee. I am never, ever up before the kids. They are usually both up by 6, sometimes earlier.
While the coffee was brewing, I picked up some toys, put some dishes away, wiped the kitchen counters...I knew if I sat down,I would fall back to sleep.
Once my coffee was finished, I sat down with a nice hot mug of coffee, my bible, and The Power of a Positive Wife (book). I kept checking the time, waiting for one of the kids to start wailing any minute.
I was able to sit and not only read through one whole chapter of the book, but I was able to review the highlights at the end of the chapter, and read the scripture passages that went along with them!
I pulled out the prayer calendars that I printed off of the Inspired to Action site, and prayed for my kids, my husband, and their day.
I am thankful that I was able to get up this morning, and through prayer, prepare the day for my family. It helped that my husband had already said last night that he was making breakfast; I got to scratch one more thing off my list :0)
What are you thankful for today?

I've been waking up before my family this week and it's been a blessing. Just having the quiet time with God has been nice. Usually I wake up WITH the kids, so this has been a total change of pace! Dropping by from Thankful Thursday!ReplyDelete
@Erika Thanks for stopping by! It is so nice to be able to wake up before the kids, rather than WITH the kids, right? I am just now learning that. I signed up for Hello Mornings coming up in a few weeks...hopefully it can give me the kick I need to keep this up!ReplyDelete
What an awesome early-morning routine to start! I also find that by getting up before my daughter, puts me in a better mood.ReplyDelete
Also stopping by from Thankful Thursday :).
I'm going to try getting up before my boys starting tomorrow. I'll be getting up 2 hours before my usual wake up time. I am NOT a morning person.ReplyDelete
I am thankful that I have a husband who understands and supports me and a God who loves me unconditionally!
@kamariden I am NOT morning person either :0) Especially when my little ones don't sleep. I've learned that if I just bite the bullet, get up, and start moving around (clean something, walk in place while the coffee is brewing, load the washer), I wake up pretty fast. Unless of course I sit down for quiet time, start to pray, and pass out. I've done that too. Good luck tomorrow!ReplyDelete
I always hoped that I could be a mom that woke up before my kids and prepared for the day with Bible reading, prayer, coffee and cleaning, but I have never been able to do this because of pregnancies, newborns, etc. Now my son wakes up so early, between 5:45 and 6:45 so there is no way I could get up before him. I actually was thinking maybe I should start doing this at night? But I can't stay up late either! But like your recent post, I am in a different season and I am sure that some day I will be able to wake up before my kids.ReplyDelete
